Published: Thursday, November 8, 2007 2:56 PM CST
Fort Madison High School's first musical in many years will be No, No Nanette, a musical comedy set in the Roaring ‘20s.

The musical will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Fort Madison Middle School gym.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at Beck Oil, Garner Oil, Dana Bushong Jewelers and the FMHS office. The play is directed by Joe Harmon.

The story takes place in New Jersey. Nanette (played by Jaclyn Foehring) is a young woman in her late teens, ready to live a little first. Her guardians (her aunt and uncle) are Jimmy and Sue Smith (Eric Dirth and Ashley Houston). They want to shelter her.

But Nanette convinces Jimmy to let her take a trip to Atlantic City with the housekeeper, Pauline (Dorothea Whitehead). Pauline is constantly grumbling about her job and claims she's mistreated. She's more than willing to take off with Nanette and act as her guardian.

Nanette, however, tells Tom she is going to her grandmother's.

Meanwhile, Jimmy has plenty of money, but his wife doesn't like to spend it. His lawyer friend Billy (Chase Lampe) doesn't have much money, but his wife Lucille (Erin Harmon) loves to shop. At one point, Lucille says to Sue, “Do me a favor and don't do anything inexpensive.”

Jimmy looks for someone to share in his wealth and gets himself into a sticky situation. He has been giving money to three promising young ladies (Caitlin Hentzel, Sydney Pierce and Dionna Meredith).

To prevent Sue from finding out about the women Jimmy and Billy decide they must buy them off with $10,000. With Jimmy hiding the truth from Sue and Nanette lying to Tom and Billy trying to protect his friend for $10,000, will the truth ever come out?

There are other twists in the plot, but you'll have to come to the musical to find out what they are.
