Dawgs & Divas will be closing its doors later this month, but in the meantime is liquidating its inventory to help the Protectors of Animal Welfare (P.A.W.) no-kill animal shelter in Fort Madison.

Fiona Macken, who has owned and operated the local grooming and pet supply store for several years, says she will be moving to Texas to help care for her parents who have health issues and to be closer to family.

The store, located at 705 Ninth St., will close Wednesday, Feb. 26. Until then, all grooming, training and store hours will continue.

“This wasn’t an easy decision at all, “ Macken said. “I don’t like the idea of leaving my customers and their dogs at all, but my sister has her hands full caring for our parents and I need to be there.”

To help her customers, Macken says she has reached out to another retailer in hope that will store will carry the brands that were available at Dawgs & Divas. For those in need of grooming and training in the future, Macken is referring customers to other establishments on her Facebook page.

As far as helping the P.A.W. shelter, Macken says customers can determine their own store discount by the amount of dog food they drop off at Daws & Divas between now and Feb. 26.

“A 10-pound bag of food will mean 10% off, up to 50 percent,” Macken said. “They need to be new, close bags of food. No open bags. And I plan on having a silent auction for some of the store items.”
