MONTROSE — For 68 years, the masses have been converging on the quaint river town of Montrose, in search of a succulently sweet melon. And beginning on Thursday, you and yours can help celebrate the nearing end of a toasty Lee County summer, as the great Watermelon Festival opens its welcoming arms.
As with years past, the annual festival is ushered in on the swinging steel arms of a Tilt-a-Whirl, with Armband Night taking place Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Kids and adults alike can take all the carnival rides they wish for $15. If you miss arm band night, advance ride tickets are $14 for 20 tickets, and can be purchased from various Montrose merchants….
