Hayden Segoviano doesn’t seek the spotlight, doesn’t crave the notoriety, doesn’t thrive on individual accolades.

All the Fort Madison High School senior wants to do is to help his team win.

You won’t find Segoviano’s name in any of the Bloodhounds’ leaderboards for individual track and field events this spring.

But his name is all over the board in the relays.

That’s just fine with Segoviano.

Segoviano has helped Fort Madison run 44.37 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay this spring. The 4x200 team has gone 1 minute, 32.14 seconds. The sprint medley relay has a season best of 1:39.12 and the distance medley relay team has run 3:45.13.

Segoviano, while not being in the limelight, has helped Fort Madison to one of its best track and field seasons in recent years.

That’s not surprising since the 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back/linebacker did a little bit of everything for the Bloodhounds’ playoff-qualifying football team last fall.

Segoviano carried the ball 96 times for 516 yards and scored five touchdowns and caught 35 passes for 310 yards. He also made 45 tackles, including 33 solo and five for loss,, had a quarterback sack and intercepted a pass.

The Daily Democrat recently caught up with Segoviano, the High School Athlete of the Week, to learn a little more about him.
