Fort Madison’s boys team ran to second place in Keokuk’s Keosippi Relays Tuesday and the girls were third.

The event was hosted by Fort Madison High School due to the renovation of the Chiefs track and field.

Clark County (Mo.) pulled out the team win in the boys meet, edging Fort Madison 116-113.5. Mount Pleasant won the girls meet with Keokuk second.

Central Lee’s Grant Myhre won the 400.

Fort Madison got a win in the 800 from Nolan Guzman, who anchored the 4x800 relay to a win.

Guzman was second in the high jump to teammate Kenden Bowie.

The Bloodhound shuttle hurdle relay team was victorious.

Fort Madison’s shuttle hurdle relay just missed the 20-team qualifying standard for the Drake Relays, ending up 24th, but the Bloodhounds glided to a four-second win over Burlington Tuesday.

No. 2 hurdler Gavin Callahan had a gash of blood on his inner ankle. “That’s part of running the hurdles.”

“I’ve been looking forward to running here at home,” anchor Henry Wiseman said. “Now we are looking forward to state.”

Fort Madison was six points back in third in the team race with two relay wins, two wins by Avery Rump and Mara Smith’s personal-best time winning the 800 meters.

“By two seconds, it was my last race at home so I better just kick it in,” Smith said. “I wanted a PR so bad. I kept talking to myself and had my team telling me my time. It got me going.”
